At Battle for Trees, we believe that planting trees is one of the important actions we can take not only for our environment, but for our communities, our health, and future generations.
With the UK losing ancient woodlands, hedgerows, and biodiversity at an alarming rate, there has never been a more urgent time to plant trees.
Trees Are the Lungs of Our Land
Trees absorb carbon dioxide, store carbon, and release oxygen. One mature tree can absorb up to 21 kg of CO₂ per year. Multiply that by a woodland, and we begin to repair the damage caused by decades of deforestation and pollution.
But it’s not just about carbon. Trees cool our cities, clean our air, reduce the risk of flooding, and provide critical habitats for wildlife.
Trees Support Life
Whether it’s birds nesting, fungi thriving, bees pollinating, or children playing beneath the canopy – trees support a complex web of life. When we plant a tree, we begin a cycle of restoration that goes far beyond the sapling itself.
Despite the benefits, the UK continues to lose trees to development, disease, and neglect. Ancient woodlands are cleared, hedgerows destroyed, and street trees removed without replanting.
We cannot afford to be passive. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.
What We're Doing
At Battle for Trees, we’re taking action:
- We run a Community Tree Nursery, growing native species from seed.
- Our volunteers plant, protect, and monitor young trees throughout the year.
- We restore ancient hedgerows and educate people on how to care for the trees around them.
- We work with schools, landowners, and councils to create long-term impact.
We’ve got tree experts, deep-rooted passion, and a growing community determined to make a difference.
