Get ready to have some fun and make your voices heard at Battle's Big Bonanza this weekend. Amidst all the family fun and BBQ delights, a crucial conversation is about to take place, one that will shape the future of our beloved town.
Come and find us at The Kiosk Cafe at Battle Recreation Ground to chat about the urgent issues impacting our local woodlands, green spaces, trees, and the wildlife that depends on them.
We'll be answering your questions, discussing concerns, and sharing critical information about the controversial housing developments that are set to change Battle from a lovely town to an urban sprawl.
In addition to the controversial development at Blackfriars, Rother District Council are at it again, trying to sneak through another housing development proposal that's at least double the size which could introduce over 1000 homes in former Abbey land, from Mansers Shaw at the bottom of the recreation ground to Claverham.

With this historic land at risk, woodland, greenfields and wildlife will be destroyed. This isn't just about numbers; it's also about the very character of our town. Here's what we face if this development goes ahead:
- Biodiversity Loss: The destruction of woodlands and green spaces will devastate local wildlife.
- Desecration of History: Former Abbey land, from Mansers Shaw to Claverham, is at risk of being paved over.
- Increased Congestion: North Trade Road and the High Street are already struggling to cope. This development will make things far worse.
- Strained Services: Our GP surgeries, dentists, and schools are already oversubscribed. Can they handle the added burden?
- Urban Sprawl: Battle risks losing its unique charm, becoming just another sprawling urban area.
